Interview Tips for Job Seekers | JP Recruitment

Simple interview tips for job seekers preparing for engineering, manufacturing, skilled trades, and management interviews. Learn how to prepare, ask better questions, and make a strong impression.

Simple Interview Advice That Works

Preparing for an interview does not need to be complicated. In fact, over-preparing can sometimes make candidates more nervous.

At JP Recruitment, we work with job seekers across engineering, manufacturing, skilled trades, and management roles. These simple interview tips can help you feel prepared, confident, and ready to make a strong impression.

1. Be Yourself

The best interviews feel like real conversations. Be professional, but do not try to give answers you think the interviewer wants to hear.

Employers want to understand your experience, personality, and how you approach your work. If you are yourself, you will usually feel more relaxed and come across more naturally.

2. Do Some Research

Keep your research simple. Review the company’s website, understand what they do, and think about how your experience connects to the role.

Before the interview, prepare a few examples of your past achievements that match what the employer is looking for.

?

3. Arrive 10–15 Minutes Early

Being late creates a poor first impression. Plan your route, give yourself extra time, and aim to arrive 10–15 minutes early.

For virtual interviews, test your camera, microphone, and internet connection before the meeting starts.

?

4. Ask Good Questions

At the end of the interview, you will usually have a chance to ask questions. This is an opportunity to show interest and learn more about the company, team, and role.

Good questions could include:

  • What would success look like in this role?
  • What are the biggest priorities for this position?
  • Can you tell me more about the team I would be working with?
  • Is there an opportunity to see the shop floor or facility?

For manufacturing, engineering, and skilled trades roles, asking about the shop floor, equipment, team structure, or day-to-day expectations can give you valuable insight.
