Sales Engineer – HVAC / Building Systems
Our client is an established and growing company in the commercial HVAC, mechanical equipment, and engineered building systems industry. They support customers across commercial, institutional, industrial, and construction-related markets with technical equipment solutions used in a wide range of building and facility applications. This Sales Engineer role is based in the Ottawa / Eastern Ontario region and offers the opportunity to join a stable organization with a strong market reputation, an established customer base, and continued growth across Ontario. This is a great fit for someone who enjoys technical sales, project-based customer relationships, and working closely with engineers, contractors, and end users.
The ideal candidate will bring experience in HVAC sales, mechanical systems, sales engineering, application engineering, technical sales, or engineered equipment sales. This role is well suited to someone who can combine technical knowledge with a consultative, relationship-driven sales approach.
Compensation: This role offers a base salary in the range of $70,000–$110,000, plus bonus/commission potential. Total compensation will vary based on experience, technical background, territory, and sales performance.
Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain relationships with consulting engineers, mechanical contractors, facility managers, building owners, developers, and industrial customers throughout Ottawa and Eastern Ontario.
- Sell and support commercial HVAC, mechanical equipment, and engineered building system solutions for institutional, commercial, industrial, and construction-related projects.
- Work with customers to understand project requirements, technical needs, timelines, budgets, and equipment specifications.
- Review drawings, specifications, schedules, tender documents, and project information to help identify appropriate technical solutions.
- Partner with internal engineering, estimating, applications, operations, and customer support teams to develop accurate quotations and proposals.
- Provide customers with technical guidance throughout the full sales cycle, from early-stage project discussions through quotation, order placement, delivery, and follow-up.
- Track opportunities through design, bidding, tender, award, and project execution stages.
- Identify new business opportunities with engineers, contractors, end users, property groups, institutions, and industrial accounts.
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations, product information, proposals, and project recommendations to customers and stakeholders.
- Maintain regular contact with customers to support long-term account growth, repeat business, and strong market coverage.
- Stay current on HVAC industry trends, mechanical systems, building technologies, competitor activity, and local market opportunities.
- Represent the company professionally at customer meetings, site visits, trade shows, industry events, and project reviews.
Requirements:
- Experience in Sales Engineering, HVAC sales, technical sales, mechanical equipment sales, application engineering, or engineered product sales.
- Knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, mechanical equipment, building systems, or related engineered technical products.
- Post-secondary education in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, HVAC Technology, Building Systems, or a related technical field is preferred.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings, specifications, schedules, and project documentation.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to customers, consultants, contractors, and internal teams.
- Experience working with consulting engineers, mechanical contractors, general contractors, facility teams, institutions, industrial customers, or building owners is an asset.
- Strong customer relationship skills and a consultative approach to technical sales.
- Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage multiple accounts, projects, quotations, and priorities at the same time.
- Comfortable with local travel throughout Ottawa, Eastern Ontario, and surrounding areas as required.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Experience using CRM systems, project tracking tools, estimating systems, or technical selection software would be considered an asset.
